We’re Black women with a passion for
funding freedom.
“When you bet on yourself, you ignite unlimited possibilities.”
Our mission is to advance the lives of ambitious Black mothers. We provide freedom capital. We operate from a place of radical self-determination, guided by three non-negotiable principles:
Sovereignty, Creativity, and Integrity.
we provide freedom capital.
Freedom Capital is both a kind of money and a way of moving it. It is an investment placed in Black mothers with no conditions attached and no performance demands. Where traditional philanthropy offers restricted grants, Freedom Capital begins with trust and expands what is possible.
The g.l.e.w. Matriarchs
Meet the women behind the legacy.
G.L.E.W. is an acronym that reflects the first names of the maternal and paternal matriarchs of our founders: Gertrude, Lilian, Eula, and Willie.
These courageous women overcame racism, sexism, domestic violence, loss, and poverty to pursue their vision for a brighter future for themselves and their children. They were all Black Mothers.
G.L.E.W. defines Black mothers expansively. Mothering is a practice, not only a biology — it lives in adoption, in kinship care, in the women who raise nieces, nephews, siblings, and alongside those who carry the work of mothering for kin and community. The Foundation centers women who self-identify as Black across the full diaspora.
