Freedom Funded
G.L.E.W. is a direct-investment vehicle for ambitious mothers. Through no-conditions grants and cultural storytelling, we remove the gatekeeping that has historically extracted labor while withholding resources. Partners make this possible through referrals or financial support, and they are part of what it becomes.
Who we fund
-
Identity
Woman who mothers in its widest sense: biological, adoptive, step, kinship, foster, and chosen.
-
STAGE OF WORK
Early-career through seasoned. We look for momentum, not tenure.
-
RELATIONSHIP TO CAPITAL
Undercapitalized relative to her contribution. Not because of capacity. Because of structure.
-
LOCATION
Global
-
POSTURE
She leads in a company, a community, a creative practice, a movement, or a quiet field of influence.
-
WHAT CAPITAL DOES
It frees something already underway. It does not start something new.
“G.L.E.W. does not ask women to prove their worth. We ask partners to recognize it and invest accordingly.
— ZUHAIRAH WASHINGTON · FOUNDER, G.L.E.W. FOUNDATIONELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
-
01
Women in our community who mother
Mothering in its widest, truest sense, including women who carry that work for children not born to them.
-
02
Her work is generative.
She builds something that produces outcomes for others. The form does not matter. The generativity does.
-
03
She has operated without the capital her work warrants.
The gap between her contribution and her resources is structural, not personal.
-
04
She carries her work with integrity.
Her name is clean in the rooms that matter to her. We do reference and pattern checks. We require integrity, not sainthood.
-
05
Capital changes the trajectory right now.
We look for the window where money meets readiness and the work moves further because of it.
-
06
She is willing to be in relationship.
Grantees join a cohort that gathers and exchanges. The capital is unconditional. The community is the point.

REFERRAL GUIDANCE
-
Refer her if
Her work has staying power. People still cite something she did three or five years ago.
She is clear about what she values and why. The clarity is hers, not borrowed.
She has produced more with less than her better-funded counterparts.
-
Do not refer her if
She is at an idea stage where the work has not yet taken a recognizable form.
Her work primarily benefits herself, with no clear outward flow.
Her name carries unresolved integrity questions she is not addressing.
how to refer
-

01
Have a brief conversation with the candidate.
Tell her you would like to put her name forward. Confirm she is open to it. We do not accept referrals made without a candidate's awareness.
-

02
Submit via our form below.
Six fields: her name, your relationship to her, her work in two sentences, why now, one open question we should know about, and her contact information. The link is shared directly with partners when the referral window opens.
-

03
We acknowledge receipt and send the application to the candidate.
A real person reads it. A real person responds within five business days. The candidate receives the brief application directly from us.
-

04
We close the loop with you.
Whether she advances or not, you receive a note. Partners deserve to know what happened with the names they offered.
